Welcome to our Bed & Breakfast. TimberMist began in 1998 after our son, Ryan, moved away to college. In the subsequent years of being innkeepers we have met many caring and interesting people from all over the world. The quiet beauty surrounding TimberMist has enriched our lives and we know you will feel the same with your visit.

About your hosts

Why “unlikely innkeepers”? When we first explored the idea of creating a B&B we felt we didn’t quite fit the mold. Karen traveled a lot for business and Steve never worked in the hospitality industry. But just as all B&B’s are different, so are the innkeepers. At TimberMist you won’t find a formal Victorian house but a large “cottage” style casual home. As your hosts, we are just as casual and hope to put you at ease and make you feel at home. So, if you have a dream to start a bed and breakfast, don’t worry about fitting a mold…create your own and do it!

Our helpers
Our housekeeper, Jane, has been with TimberMist almost from the start. She is always cheerful, generous and flexible. We are very lucky to have her!

Thanks to Karen’s mom, Cherie Harger, for all the pen & ink artwork and interior decorating.  She really can put a room together!

Upon arriving you may be greeted by the welcoming bark of Moses & KK. Our two retrievers are lovable, but since not everyone is a dog lover, we do keep them tied up. They are barn dogs and do not come in the house.

Our Values

We believe in the “triple bottom line” of profitability, social consciousness and environmental responsibility.

Eco-friendly is a common buzzword today.  Here’s what living lightly means to us.
We currently:

  • Serve mostly locally grown or organic food.
  • Offer low-impact activities (car-free nature walks, skiing, fishing, etc.).
  • Preserve over 80% of the property for wildlife.
  • Compost food scraps and manage a comprehensive recycling program.

In the future we plan to:

  • Power by renewable energy (wind, solar, etc.).
  • Strive toward zero waste.
  • Use low-water/low-energy methods for washing linens.

Some of the organizations we support:
Erie Whole Foods Cooperative
United Way of Erie County agencies
Perseus House of Erie
Co-op America
The Nature Conservancy
World Wildlife Fund
National Resource Defense Council
Western Pennsylvania Conservancy
